Summary:
The Medication Assistant assures the medication management program is provided in an accurate, sensitive, professional and effective way in accordance with current regulationsThe Medication Assistant may also perform day-to-day activities of care giving for the residents and participates in the Dining and Community program to ensure the best quality of care is provided for all residentsESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
oDistribute prescribed medication to residents and maintains related medical records under supervision of the Resident Wellness Director and maintains compliance with the RIGHTS of medication oPresents medication to resident as required by the MOR and observes ingestion or other application, or assists in the administration of medication, using specified procedures oTakes vital signs or observes resident to detect response to specified types of medications and prepares report or notifies designated personnel of unexpected reactions oDocuments reasons prescribed drugs are not administered, held, changed, disposed of, discontinued or returned on the MOR oReview and participate in 24 Hour Reports, Daily Logs, Shift Cross-over Reports and verbal reports as needed oMonitors medications to ensure adequate accountability measures are taken when medications are ordered, received into the community, administered and at change of shift as required by policy and procedures oRespects the resident's rights regarding medication oNotifies the Wellness Nurse or Resident Wellness Director of unauthorized medication held by the resident oSeeks advice from the Wellness Nurse or Resident Wellness Director prior to administering any medication that does not seem correct oUnderstands and can explain the medication dosage/pharmacology when necessary oRefrains from giving any PRN medications as required by law oRefrains from providing any treatment that does not fall under their specific licensing oAssist residents with their personal care and activities of daily living as assigned and as requested by residents oPerform daily housekeeping tasks as assigned using established procedures and standards oRespond to resident emergency calls oAssure that established infection control practices are maintained oReport all hazardous conditions and equipment to the supervisor oAssure the equipment is cleaned and properly stored at the end of each shift oReport all accidents and incidents as soon as possible to your supervisor, no matter how minor oMaintain the confidentiality of residents' personal care information oHonor the residents' personal and property rights KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
oAble to communicate effectively with all levels of management, team members, residents, family members, vendors,referral sources and outside contacts oAble to make independent decisions oMust be able to communicate in a warm, friendly and caring manner oMust possess a passion to work with and around senior citizens oKnowledge of customer service principles and practices EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
oHigh School Diploma or GED oLicense / Certificate for Medication Assistance as required per state regulations oCPR certification / First Aid certification EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
oExperience as a Resident Care Specialist or Medication Assistant preferred PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this position:
oAble to stand or walk 75% of the day oAble to concentrate with frequent interruptions oAble to work under stress and in emergency situations oAble to work under conditions that require sitting, standing, walking, reaching, pulling, pushing and grasping oAble to talk and hear effectively in order to convey messages, instructions and information to residents and team members oOccasionally lift / carry up to 50 pounds OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE /PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:
oWork in all areas of the community oSubject to reactions from dust, disinfectants and cleaning chemicals and may be exposed to infectious waste, diseases and other conditionsoRequired to use personal protective equipment and supplies to prevent burns, falls, and infection and follow safety policies and proceduresoPersonal protective equipment includes infection control kit, rubber gloves and non-slip shoes oSubject to infectious diseases, substances and odors oFollow Safety Policy & Procedures FT, 7am-7pmincludes every other weekendmed tech certificate is required Recommended Skills Activities Of Daily Living (Ad Ls) Administration Cpr Customer Service First Aid And Preparedness Friendliness Apply to this job.
